Visia skin and complexion analysis

Visia skin and complexion analysis is now available at the London Dermatology Centre.

VISIA skin and complexion analysis uses multi-spectral imaging to reveal damage and signs of ageing on and beneath the surface of the skin that is not visible to the human eye. VISIA's computer imaging enables London Dermatology Centres' practitioners to evaluate the health and appearance of your skin based on six criteria that affect your complexion: wrinkles, spots, pores, evenness (skin tone colour variation), porphyrins (evidence of bacteria in your pores), and UV spots caused by overexposure to the sun.

VISIA also compares your skin to that of others of the same age and ethnicity to provide additional information about your skin and complexion results. You are given a copy of this report, which includes the details of your skin analysis, recommendations for treatment, and skin care options.

London Dermatology Centre uses the skin data to determine an effective rejuvenation regime for your specific needs. This can include a number of treatments such as skin peels, facials, laser treatment or anti-ageing injections such as Botox and Restylane. It can also include a detoxification and relaxation course as a precursor to a treatment programme. A home routine will also and most importantly be provided as daily care and cleansing with products to match your skin type, life style, age and condition is more important than any treatment that Med-Spa or any other medical spa can offer you. Please remember that one product does not fit all and your face is as individual as your fingerprint.

Vitiligo Clinic

Due to massive demand Dr Sunil Chopra is delighted to announce a clinic specialised in the treatment of vitiligo.

This is the only clinic of its kind in the UK.

Dr Chopra has a special interest in vitiligo and has had many years experience of treating patients with vitiligo both in NHS and private practice.

Vitiligo is a common non catching skin condition affecting around 1% of the population. It can affect people of any age and of any age. Vitiligo can cause extreme distress to sufferers because of its unusual appearance.

Until recently, people suffering from vitiligo have had virtually no access to successful treatment for their vitiligo except for cosmetic camouflage.

With world renowned dermatologist Dr Sanjeev Mulekar and nurse specialist Alice Slater, The London Dermatology Centre is able to offer the most successful proven treatments available to give the skin the best chance of repigmentation.

Treatments available:
• Assessment - Dr Chopra will thoroughly assess your vitiligo and medical history and discuss the best treatment options available to you.

• Phototherapy - (UVB-TLO1) and PUVA an ultraviolet light treatment which has good results in repigmenting vitiligo.

• ReCell - a procedure where the colour forming cells of ‘normal’ skin are grafted on to areas of vitiligo. This is performed by Dr Mulakar who is a world expert and pioneer in this procedure for vitiligo.

• Depigmentation – for patients with very extensive vitiligo. Counselling is available with this treatment.

• Counselling - we have a counsellor on site who is available to discuss issues relating to vitiligo and how to cope with it.

Allergy Clinic

The London Dermatology Centre is able to offer a comprehensive allergy service tailored to your individual needs. This is run by Dr Sunil Chopra Consultant Dermatologist and Alice Slater Dermatology Nurse Specialist who have had many years experience of allergy clinics for adults and children both in the NHS and private sector.

Allergy affects around 1 in 4 of the UK population at any time in our lives. Each year the numbers are increasing by 5%.

Common symptoms suffered are

• Eczema
• Asthma
• Rhinitis
• Urticaria
• Rash/hives
• Swelling
• Wheezing
• Itchy eyes, ears, lips, throat, or roof of mouth
• Runny nose
• Sickness, vomiting or diarrhoea
• Sinus pain

Allergy can cause months and years of inconvenience and misery. An allergy is a response within the body to a substance in the environment. This could be something you eat, inhale or touch.

As almost any substance can cause an allergy it is often difficult for the individual to identify what is causing the problem.

What to expect from your allergy consultation?

Your first visit will involve a thorough allergy and medical history assessment. We can then discuss with you possible causes of your allergy. You may need to have a special blood test called a RAST. This can detect allergy to many allergens such as house dust mites, pollens, cats, dogs, latex, milk, eggs, peanuts etc. The results of this test will be ready in 48 hours.
If we suspect that your allergy may be caused by something that comes into contact with your skin you may need a patch test. This involves putting stickers (patches) on your upper back containing the allergens which most commonly cause skin allergy such as metals, fragrances, hair dye, preservatives etc. The patches will need to be removed after 48 hours.
• Please stop any antihistamine medication 3 days before your consultation and if possible bring in a list of suspected causes for your allergy.

What to expect from your follow up consultation

You will need to attend for a follow up consultation about a week after your first appointment. We will give you your allergy test results and these will be discussed with you in detail. You will be given written information on how to avoid substances that you are found to be allergic to. We will give you advice on controlling your allergies as well as treating your symptoms.
